CES 2018: Alpine X209-WRA-OR and I207-WRA Restyle Jeep Head Units

It’s no secret we’re big fans of Alpine Audio—especially their lineup of Jeep head units, which we’ve used in multiple Wrangler builds in the past—and visiting them at CES is an annual highlight.  This year, we stopped by to see what’s new in the world of Alpine’s Jeep products, including a pair of new in-dash entertainment units.

First up was Alpine X209-WRA-OR, the newest refinement to the company’s Restyle line of in-dash receivers. Taking customer feedback to build on the popular Alpine X209-WRA, the OR variant offers a set of features meant to appeal directly to Jeep off-roaders. A new UI gives drivers a less-intrusive GPS experience, something more akin to a hiking GPS than a car navigation system, showing the user’s location without giving actual turn-by-turn directions. Users can also set waypoints to find their way back from locations that may not have any physical directional markings, and save their trail information to share with other users. The new UI also displays useful off-roading information, like current approach angle and tire pressure.

Those looking for a smaller, more simple setup for their Jeep Wrangler might prefer the Alpine I207-WRA system, which is ideal for the digital music listener. The 7-inch head unit is mechless—meaning it has no CD or DVD drive—but offers full CarPlay and Android Auto integration, as well as SiriusXM, HD Radio, and an HDMI input. One major selling point for the I207 is the included dash kit that matches the factory design, and comes with everything you’ll need to quickly install the receiver in your Jeep. The smaller size means it’s also a perfect fit for older Jeep Wranglers as well.
